Featured Projects
Below are some key projects from my portfolio that showcase my work in digital innovation, data analytics, and interactive application development. Each project also highlights the skills I honed along the way.
Future-Proofing Airport Parking at ONT
As part of the Cal Poly Pomona CEO Business Challenge, I worked with multi-year operational data from Ontario International Airport (ONT) to explore how parking, passenger volumes, and ride-hailing activity interact over time in support of future-proof parking strategy and non-aeronautical revenue growth, while protecting all sensitive data. Using R and Quarto, I cleaned and integrated multiple datasets (parking revenue and transactions by lot, passenger counts by airline and direction, TNC trips, and lot occupancy), reshaped them into consistent monthly and weekly time series, engineered date features, standardized categories, and generated a non-sensitive schema describing table structures and missingness for safe internal sharing. I then built interactive visualizations—including stacked time-series charts, rank trajectories, inbound vs outbound flow views, TNC company-to-trip-type Sankey diagrams, and a weekly occupancy heatmap—to reveal how different parking products contribute to revenue, how usage shifts across lots, and how TNC activity compares to traditional parking, informing pricing, capacity, and product-mix decisions.
Skills Developed:
- Time-Series EDA: Reshaping multi-year operational data into coherent monthly and weekly series for analysis.
- Data Engineering in R: Using tidyverse, lubridate, and stringr for parsing dates, normalizing categories, and handling sparse/missing values.
- Interactive Visualization: Building plotly-based stacked areas, rank plots, heatmaps, and Sankey diagrams for stakeholder-friendly exploration.
- Data Governance & NDA Safety: Generating schema and missingness profiles (YAML) to document data structure without exposing raw values or sensitive metrics.
(All ONT data and exact figures are confidential; this description focuses on methods, structures, and skills rather than proprietary results.)
A Safer Way to Collect Data: Market Area Mapping
In my role as an Analyst, I was responsible for determining the “market area” of military installations—a process that previously involved manual note-taking at major intersections. To overcome the challenges of inaccuracy and safety risks, I developed a Shiny R application that integrates with the Strava API to automatically capture GPS data during field drives. Using the sf and leaflet packages, the app generates an interactive map of our routes, significantly enhancing both safety and data accuracy. Additionally, the HERE API is utilized to estimate market areas, adding an extra layer of verification.
Skills Developed:
- Advanced R Programming: Building interactive applications with Shiny.
- API Integration: Working with Strava and HERE APIs to automate data collection.
- Geospatial Analysis: Using
sfandleafletfor mapping and spatial data visualization. - Process Optimization: Streamlining data collection methods for improved safety and efficiency.
Analyzing SEO Practices: TRI and Industry Competitors
In this project, I conducted a comprehensive analysis of SEO practices for Trauma Resource Institute(TRI) and compared them with industry competitors. By combining web scraping, keyword research, and data visualization, I identified strengths and weaknesses in TRI’s online presence and developed actionable recommendations for improving digital strategy.
Skills Developed:
- SEO Analysis: Evaluated and benchmarked SEO performance across multiple competitors.
- Data Scraping & Cleaning: Wrote a script to collect and process data from various online sources.
- Interactive Reporting: Created an interactive HTML report to visualize comparative SEO metrics.
- Strategic Insights: Synthesized data into actionable recommendations for digital marketing initiatives.
Below is an embedded demonstration of the interactive report:
Motivation Through a Dashboard
While managing a large, complex database of flagged data, I observed that the team’s motivation was waning due to the overwhelming volume and slow progress. To address this, I quickly created a simple yet effective dashboard that visualizes key metrics and tracks the team’s progress over time. The dashboard provided clear insights into accomplishments, significantly boosting team morale and focus on the end goal.
Skills Developed:
- Data Visualization: Designing dashboards that effectively communicate progress.
- User Experience (UX): Crafting visual tools that motivate and engage team members.
- Performance Metrics Analysis: Identifying and presenting key performance indicators.
- Dashboard Development: Integrating dynamic data displays within existing applications.
The Chubb Archive
I created thechubbarchive.com as a digital hub for preserving and sharing cherished family memories. This project curates a collection of old physical films that have been digitized and hosted on YouTube. The platform serves as an organized gateway to these films while integrating Google Analytics to track engagement from family members across various states.
Skills Developed:
- Web Development: Building a responsive website for digital archiving.
- Digital Curation: Organizing and presenting multimedia content.
- Analytics Integration: Implementing Google Analytics to monitor user engagement.
- Project Management: Coordinating digitization and online publishing processes.
